General Accountant

JOB DESCRIPTION

The General Accountant plays a key role in supporting our field teams, project managers, and leadership by ensuring accurate job cost tracking, compliant payroll practices, and smooth financial operations that reflect our commitment to quality and integrity. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
ACCOUNTS PAYABLE (AP):

Manage invoice intake, coding, three way matching, job cost allocation, and approval routing while maintaining accuracy and timeliness.

Maintain strong vendor relationships aligned with Anderson Howard’s reputation for professionalism and reliability.

Track subcontractor compliance including lien releases, retainage requirements, W9s, and Certificates of Insurance.

Reconcile vendor statements, resolve discrepancies, and assist with 1099 processing.

Support AP process improvements that enhance efficiency and accountability across project teams.

PAYROLL:

Collect, review, and validate timekeeping for both field and office personnel, ensuring accuracy and alignment with job cost codes.

Process payroll, deductions, garnishments, and contributions in accordance with Anderson Howard policies and regulatory requirements.

Prepare and submit certified payroll reports for public works projects.

Maintain organized payroll records and partner with supervisors to process personnel changes promptly.

Provide exceptional support to employees by addressing payroll questions clearly and professionally.

Administer employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and 401(k), with a focus on employee experience and accuracy.

Manage new hire enrollments, qualifying life events, open enrollment, and terminations.

Reconcile carrier invoices and maintain eligibility and enrollment data.

Support compliance with ACA and other regulatory requirements.

Serve as a trusted resource for employees, reflecting Anderson Howard’s commitment to care and clarity.

COMPLIANCE & INTERNAL CONTROLS:

Follow established accounting procedures, internal controls, and approval workflows.

Maintain documentation in compliance with public works, certified payroll, and audit requirements.

Uphold Anderson Howard’s values of integrity and accuracy in all financial processes.

Identify opportunities to enhance accounting operations through documentation updates, automation, or process refinements.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED:
-
3–5+ years’ experience in construction accounting, AP, payroll, or related functions.

Strong proficiency in Excel and standard accounting systems.

Experience working with job cost coding and project based accounting.
-
High attention to detail, reliability, and a service oriented mindset.

PREFERRED:

Experience in benefits administration.

Familiarity with construction accounting systems and certified payroll requirements.

Knowledge of California public works compliance.

Payroll or accounting certifications.
COMPANY BENEFITS INCLUDE:
COMPETITIVE COMPENSATION:
$65,000-$90,000 annually plus performance bonus, based on skillset and experience level.
